Meet your Jersey property, planning and construction team – they're in a league of their own

Whether you're investing in property, undertaking property finance or property development, making or challenging a Planning application or involved in the construction industry, Ogier's Jersey property, planning and construction law team remains in a league of its own – that's the view of the most influential, independent legal directory in the business, Chambers UK.

For the third year running, Chambers has ranked the Jersey team as the only team of property, planning and construction lawyers and conveyancers to merit a top-tier rating, citing client feedback saying the team is "professional yet approachable, with an ability to focus on the key issues," that the team are "a pleasure to deal with and extremely efficient" adding: "They have excellent knowledge of the intricacies of the local market."

The directory independently assesses the work that law firms do, and uses verified client feedback to get a real, practical view of their technical skills and client service. The feedback for the Ogier team highlights their no-nonsense, high quality approach.

The same team work on major development projects for construction firms and architects, and for the sale or purchase of multi-million pound homes to one or two-bedroom flats.

The team, which is part of Ogier's Local Legal Services team, is led by partner Jonathan Hughes, a Jersey Advocate described by clients as "a very knowledgeable problem solver" who is ranked in Band One of Jersey property lawyers. Chris Renouf, a former head of the team who now works with them as a consultant, is one of only two practitioners working in the Island to merit "Senior Statesman" status.

Counsel Katharine Marshall is described as being "thoroughly professional and efficient" as well as being "approachable, efficient and always prompt in dealing with matters".

The team also includes Senior Associate Sarah Parish who joined Ogier after working for a boutique firm in mainland UK, specialising in general property management, leases, sales, acquisitions and secured lending. Associate Laura Shirreffs is also part of the leading team, who has been with Ogier since she was a bursary student, and who specialises in commercial property, property finance, planning work and employment law.

The conveyancing team includes experienced practitioners Tim Bechelet (whose career in property started in 1978 at Le Masurier, Gifford & Poch, the firm that became Ogier) and Charles Le Maistre (who has been in the industry for more than 13 years) and a trainee conveyancer Emily Holland.

Rebecca McNulty within Ogier's Dispute Resolution team provides expertise in contentious matters and assists with planning and construction law cases in Jersey.

The team is supported by a dynamic group of paralegals who assist in delivering continued service innovation for clients.
